The world is not black and white. In todays’ political climate, especially in the USA, drawing connections on who is the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ is difficult. Defining what is good and bad is pretty straight forward though, through tangible impact (positive or negative) on the planet and society.

Recently, Charlie Kirk was killed at an event he hosted on the UVU campus in Utah. The ‘left’ has broadly either celebrated or not shown remorse for his death, and the ‘right’ has called the killing senseless political violence perpetuated by The Left (and Democrats), with accounts of doxxing and threats being made to various left wing individuals [1][2] for either celebrating his death or calling him out on his actions. So much for free speech.

The right has almost unanimously declared ‘war’ [3] on the left, stating that he was killed for his beliefs, and beliefs only. What does war mean? More online activity or a genuine civil war? Charlie Kirk was not killed for his beliefs. He was killed because of his actions. He was an incredibly influential individual, which was a key player in shifting youth beliefs (in the US and globally) further right, perpetuating online hate speech, promoting restricting women’s’ rights, denying climate change, stating that a baseline level of (avoidable) gun deaths each year are nessicary to maintain their ‘God Given Rights’ of the 2A, outright called for reducing of other civil rights in the US [4], supported Israel, bandwagon-ed on the (highly disproven) Replacement Theory, and doesn’t believe in empathy [4]. Not to mention his deep affiliation and connections within the Republican party, who are protecting pedophiles. His actions lead and actively bred the political hellscape the US that the US devolved into, and his actions will lead to an increase of these types of killings.

Another sect of opinion has risen in conjunction with his death, a suite of conspiracy theories in relation to Kirks’ recent calling for the release of the Epstein files [5] and his recent diminishment of support for Israel [6]. Some think he was killed for these reasons, by Israel, though only correlation exists with no evidence. This breed of alt-right are antisemitic and racist. They do not support, in fact they hate, Israel. Does that make them an ally of Palestine? Should the left combine forces with the alt right to fight Israel against their genocide in Palestine?

No.

Furthermore, Nick Fuentes was a political rival of Charlie Kirk. He is even more right wing than Kirk, and is all the bad things he is and then some. Because Fuentes was against Kirk, does that make him my ally?

No.

We need to be able to decipher who is actually on what side, and consciously investigate wether people who on the surface agree with us (or various opinions of ours), actually support our ideals or fall into some other category.

On the topic of what the right calls celebrating death. Online, most people are trying to either justify his death or show extreme mourning for his death. Justification tries to explain why his death was right/positive, or why the shooter was right for doing so. The mourning stems from a fear of murder for ‘just having an opinion’ (calling this the death of free speech), and the death of a father and husband. As mentioned earlier, Kirk was killed for his actions, his actions directly lead to his death (and accepted the deaths of innocent people). Most people have probably not been highly invested in Kirks’ activities. While he was an extremely influential character, his depth maxes out to in-person campuses and online activity that also has a limit. Most people probably knew about him and some of his actions, much less were fully aware, and much less were actively engaged in his content. There is a clear difference between praising how and that he was killed, and recognizing how he influenced the environment which lead to his death. There is a clear difference between calling for the deaths of people who have differing opinions (which this is not, Charlie Kirk was a fascist supporting, pedophile protecting, Israel supporting POS), and understanding how actions have consequences.

You will reap what you sow.

The real victims, are his one and four-year-old children. They did not choose their father, nor does anyone, and they are not capable of understanding the negative impact he had on the US. They are not capable of understanding the why or how of how their father died. All they know is that he did. And for the rest of their lives they will not have him, they will forever live in the shadow of his actions and controversies, and eventually may even be exposed to the footage of his death (which is brutal and gruesome). His wife is not a victim. She has autonomy, and chose to marry that man. She knew what she was doing, and I have little compassion for her other than the genuine loss of the person she (supposedly) loved.

At the end of the day, what we do (with our life) matters, and has physical, tangible impacts. How we treat others, how we treat our environment (and planet), what we say, who we associate and spend our (unrecoverable) time with, and where we choose to go in life matters.
